While Cohase Rotary eClub is focused on VT & NH, Rotary is a global network of 1.2 million neighbors, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.

We provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through our fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders.

Solving real problems takes real commitment and vision. For more than 110 years, Rotary’s people of action have used their passion, energy, and intelligence to take action on sustainable projects. From literacy and peace to water and health, we are always working to better our world, and we stay committed to the end.

Rotary members believe that we have a shared responsibility to take action on our world’s most persistent issues. Our 35,000+ clubs work together to:

  • Promote peace
  • Fight disease (including eradicating polio)
  • Provide clean water, sanitation, and hygiene

  • Support education
  • Grow local economies

More About Rotary

THE OBJECT OF ROTARY
The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

First. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

Second. High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

Third. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;

Fourth. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

One of the most widely printed and quoted statements of business ethics in the world is the…

ROTARY 4-WAY TEST
It was created by Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor in 1932 when he was asked to take charge of a company that was facing bankruptcy. Taylor looked for a way to save the struggling company mired in depression-caused financial difficulties. He drew up a 24-word code of ethics for all employees to follow in their business and professional lives. The 4-Way Test became the guide for sales, production, advertising and all relations with dealers and customers, and the survival of the company is credited to this simple philosophy. The 4-Way Test was adopted by Rotary in 1943 and has been translated into more than a hundred languages and published in thousands of ways. Herb Taylor became president of Rotary International in 1954-55.

Of the things we think, say, or do:

  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  3. Will it build GOOD WILL and better FRIENDSHIPS?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

ROTARY IS: SERVICE ABOVE SELF
Rotary is an organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide, who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.

Rotary is the world’s first service club. The first Rotary club was founded in Chicago, Illinois, USA, on February 23, 1905.

Rotary is some 1.2 million service-minded men and women belonging to nearly 35,000 Rotary clubs in virtually every nation in the world.

Rotarians meet regularly for fellowship and interesting and informative programs dealing with topics of local and global importance. Membership is by invitation, and reflects a wide cross-section of community representation.

Rotarians plan and carry out a remarkable variety of humanitarian, education and cultural exchange programs that touch people’s lives in their local communities and world community.

Rotary is The Rotary Foundation, which each year provides some US $86 million for international scholarships, cultural exchanges, and humanitarian projects large and small that improve the quality of life for millions of people.

Rotary is Polio Plus, Rotary’s commitment to work with national and international health organizations on the goal of polio eradication . More than 2.5 billion children in the developing nations have been immunized against polio through Polio Plus grants. We are almost there. Only one strain left.

WHY COHASE ROTARY ECLUB?

Cohase Rotary eClub was originally chartered in 1925 as Woodsville-Wells River Rotary Club. In 2017, we renamed the club in order to better represent the area we directly serve (the Cohase Region of Fairlee, Bradford, Newbury, Wells River in Vermont and Woodsville, Haverhill, Piermont, and Orford in New Hampshire). In 2020, we decided to move the club to an eClub model in order to better serve the community by accommodating people’s work/life/volunteer balance. We meet twice a month via Zoom (2nd & 4th Mondays 6:30-7:30pm) and then meet in person to work on community service projects. Each member has committed to a personal goal of completing 40 hours of community service per year (however, whenever, and wherever the member chooses). The eClub model allows members to join from anywhere, without worrying about physical restrictions. As members of Cohase Rotary Club you will become members of District #7850, Zone 32, and Rotary International, which allows you to travel to club meetings anywhere in the world! It also allows you to attend District, Zone, and International conferences and conventions.

WHY ROTARY?

PERSONAL & LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
Rotary is an organization of leaders and successful people. Serving in Rotary positions is like a college education. Leadership is all about learning how to motivate, influence and lead leaders. Participate in leadership at the club, district, or even international level and network with others at regional Rotary Leadership Institute sessions. Membership in Rotary ensures continuing growth and education in human relations and personal development.

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
One of the original reasons for Rotary’s beginning is business development. Everyone needs to network. Rotary consists of a cross¬section of every business community. Its members come from all walks of life. Rotarians help each other and collectively help others. Rotary develops confidence and skill in public communication and the opportunity to practice and perfect these skills. Rotary has an alliance with Toastmasters International and fellowships specifically for networking such as Rotary Means Business.

GLOBAL & COMMUNITY CITIZENSHIP
Every Rotarian wears a pin that says “Rotary International.” There are few places on the globe that do not have a Rotary club. Every Rotarian is welcome – even encouraged – to attend any of the 30,000 clubs in 194 nations and geographical regions. This encourages new friendships in both local and world communities. Membership in a Rotary club helps develop better community citizens.

OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE
As a service club, Rotary’s business is mankind and its product is service. This is perhaps the best reason for becoming a Rotarian: the chance to do good. Rotarians practice a 4-Way Test that governs their ethical standards. Rotarians are expected to be ethical in business and personal relationships.

FRIENDSHIP & FELLOWSHIP
In an increasingly complex world, Rotary provides one of the most basic human needs: the need for friendship and fellowship.
